Social Networking

Social Networking Activity
The whole Twitter assignment open the door for me into social media.  To begin the assignment, I followed Teri Lesesne, KarinLibrarian, YALSA, Elana K. Arnold, Dutton Young Readers, Alissa Kirby, Kari Edgens, Library journal, ALA Booklist, American Libraries, The Booklist Reader, ilovelibraries.org, Donalyn Miller, Paul W. Hankins, Franki Sibberson, Margie Myers-Culver, LizTeen Librarian Toolbox, Jo Knowles, and Libba Bray.   The more I engaged in Twitter the more I added to my list of individuals and groups that I followed.  As a librarian it is essential to keep current with activities, teaching strategies, and new recommended books and authors.  Twitter is a great resource to keep librarians up to date and constantly learning new ideas and activities to incorporate into their own libraries.
The literacy organization I followed was YALSA, which provides webinars, Twitter chat, service programs, ideas and teaching instructional strategies.  YALSA also has TEEN Read Week site that has numerous resources and a forum to share ideas.  YALSA also provides inspirational and motivational quotes that encourage individuals to get young readers motivated to read!  YALSA is an excellent way for young readers to stay connected and collaborate with youth throughout the country.
The librarian that I followed was Kari Edgens who post projects and lessons that she has had with her students.  She also posts about new books and give awesome insight into the books that encourage young reader to read.  Kari Edgens posted the pictures of students enjoying a library field trip.  Kari Edgens is a great example to follow.  She shares great ideas, books, and projects from her library.  Since following Kari Edgens, I have also followed other librarians like LizB.
The young adult author that I chose to follow was Elana K. Arnold who is always sharing on new recommended book to read.  Following Elana K. Arnold and other amazing authors is an excellent resource to stay current with new recommended books.  Elana K. Arnold also recommends great resources that can be beneficial for librarian to incorporate into their library programs.  Nowadays, new technology and resources are being created and having a resource like Elana K. Arnold to recommend these new resources is great!
The teacher that I followed was Malissa Kirby who is a 7th grade language art teacher.  She shares post about her students doing activities and projects in the classroom.  She also shares pictures and insight about school field trips and organized student projects happening in her school.  It is awesome to see other teachers from other school districts and cities and learn about what they can achieve with their students in the classroom and school activities.
The publisher that I followed was Dutton Young Readers who post an abundance on newly recommended books.  Publishers, in my opinion, is one of the most important resources to follow.  All their post are about new books and giving great insight and motivation to read these books.  As a librarian, we need to keep out book collection current in our library.  Learning about new books as soon as possible it going to be essential for librarians and publishers on Twitter can provide librarians that information.
Twitter is an amazing resource that librarians can use to communicate, learn, stay current with new resources, ideas, and new recommended books.  I had never joined Twitter, so this was truly a new and exciting experience for me.  I found Twitter especially user friendly to learn to use.  As the weeks passed, the number of individuals and groups that I started following increase.  There is an abundance of information and news that is shared through Twitter.  I had always thought of Twitter as a social media that was used to connect individuals for social reasons.  However, after this assignment, I see Twitter in a whole new light.  Twitter is an amazing resource to learn, collaborate, and share ideas!
